The Rhondda Schools Rugby Initiative aims to foster a love of rugby in Rhondda schools, engaging both girls and boys through a well-structured, high-quality coaching program.
Any child with an interest in the sport is given the chance to play under the guidance of our development officers. Those who demonstrate ability are further encouraged to join their age-group teams, representing Rhondda in competitive matches.
These age-group teams train and compete regularly against other schools, steadily improving in skill and teamwork as they work toward the prestigious Dewar Shield competition for fifteen-year-olds. The Dewar Shield is highly respected across South Wales, both East and West, and Rhondda’s dedication to the initiative has made it a strong contender in this competition, despite having a relatively small catchment of comprehensive schools.
